Yuvraj will be Mahendra Singh Dhoni's deputy

LONDON: Indian middle-order mainstay Yuvraj Singh has been named vice-captain of the Indian cricket team in place of injured Virender Sewhag for the ongoing ICC World Twenty20.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement on Friday that Yuvraj will be Mahendra Singh Dhoni's deputy in Sehwag's absence.

"In the absence of Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh has been named as vice captain for the ongoing ICC World Twenty20 in England", BCCI secretary N Srinivasan said in a statement.

Yuvraj had been the vice-captain of the one-day team for a brief period in 2007-08.

Sehwag has been replaced by wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik.
